Artist Statement
My art focuses on transformation, the alteration occurring from one physical or psychological circumstance, changes occurring from life to death. I tend to think in vignettes, telling a story. My thoughts lead to the creation of series such as Asylum, Bark and Bones and Vultures.
Living in a forested environment offers opportunity to intimately examine transformation. Witnessing the decomposition of animals and plants-tree stumps decaying and dead animals decomposing. Collecting bones, teeth, bark, roots and transforming their remains into sculptures and paintings, honors the passage and confronts environmental issues as climate change, deforestation, and environment-related disease. Within the exodus from living, I capture essence and beauty, hoping to stimulate discussion and awareness.
